From an early age, Sonya was known for her infectious laugh, compassionate heart, and deep love for animals. She was a beautiful soul with a strong faith whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
To know Sonya was to know someone who embraced life with joy. Her spirit was always dancing, her laughter could fill an entire room, and her smile had a way of making everyone around her feel welcome. She never took life too seriously and was always ready for a spontaneous adventure, a playful joke, or a reason to celebrate. She lived each day with an open heart and a genuine love for the people around her.
Sonya's compassion extended to every living creature. She had an extraordinary love for animals and dedicated herself to rescuing and caring for those in need. Whether caring for her own beloved pets, helping stray animals find safety, or simply admiring nature, she found beauty and purpose in every life she encountered.
Above all else, Sonya's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother whose love knew no bounds. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and the memories they shared will remain treasured forever.
Sonya leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, compassion, and unforgettable memories. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Brianna Martinez-Guerra and Nicole Arianna Guerra; her sisters, Nina Martinez of Seattle and Melva Martinez-Huerta of Austin; her cherished grandchildren, Audrey Nicole, Mila Grace, and Michael Josiah; nephews Roman Huerta, Perrin Rich-Martinez and niece Medea Rich-Martinez, the father of her children, Peter A. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Sonya's life, share stories, and remember the laughter, kindness, and joy she brought to so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Sonya's honor to Austin Pets Alive! a cause that reflected her lifelong love and devotion to animals.
Sonya, you filled our lives with sunshine, laughter, and unconditional love. Your beautiful spirit will live on in the countless lives you touched and in every animal that finds kindness because of your example. May you now run free, surrounded by the animals you loved so dearly, until the day we meet again.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
