Steven Frederick Kopas

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise Kopas. He is survived by his first wife of 27 years Martha Kopas and sons Scott Kopas and Todd Kopas (Mary Kopas); daughters Jennifer Kopas Ruiz (Arturo Ruiz) and Catherine Kopas, brother Gary Kopas and grandchildren, Jordan Kopas, Amberly Kopas, Angie Cohen, Grace Kopas, and Alaina Ruiz.

Steven graduated from Ohio State University in Computer Science and spent his life working in this field. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and continued to serve the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retiring from the military he worked for the State of Texas for 20 years during which time he received a master’s degree and later earned a law degree. Before his passing he was a student of the violin and guitar and was learning to speak other languages. He showed a true passion for personal growth.

He was a kind, generous man who was devoted to his spiritual practice throughout his life always pursuing a relationship with God. He adored his family and helped those he felt needed it most. His quiet strength, enormous love, and friendly smile will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially his family.

A visitation will be held on February 5, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750.

The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A committal service will take place on February 5, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542.
