Sue Hansen, 47, passed away on August 18, 2005, following a lengthy hospitalization. Sue was born in Corpus Christi on December 20, 1957, to Marjorie R. and the late John B. Hansen of Austin. She spent the first 17 years of her life following her dad, a career Navy pilot, to assignments in Virginia, the District of Columbia, Morocco, Washington State and California. Following her dads retirement, she graduated from Anderson High School and Texas Tech University. Sue was a devoted animal lover and volunteered extensively for the Humane Society of Boulder, Colorado, where she moved to be closer to family members. Upon her return to Austin in 1998, Sue suffered a debilitating stroke that required her to curtail her animal welfare activities. Nevertheless, she remained an enthusiastic animal advocate and opened her home to several abandoned cats and a parakeet. Sue is survived by her mother, Marge (Austin); sisters Karen (Larry) Lott (Houston) and Sandy (Vernal, Utah); nieces Jennifer (Chauncey) Graetzel (Zurich, Switzerland) and Katie Lott (Houston); and dear friends Deborah Cervantes and Jim Cartwright (Austin) and Bill Blackburn (Lockhart). Her family thanks the nurses and doctors who treated Sue throughout the years, especially those at St. Davids ICU and IMCU. A memorial service is scheduled for noon, Monday, August 22, at the North Loop Apartments, with the distribution of Sues ashes to follow in Boulder, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Town Lake Animal Shelter. Obituary and guestbook available online at wcfish.com
