Suzanne was born on March 6, 1953, in Denton, Texas to Iva Sue Wier and J. Rex Wier Jr. Her family moved to Austin when she was a child. She graduated from Reagan High School and attended The University of Texas, Austin, where she achieved a Bachelors of Arts in Interior Design. While going to school and working at Safeway, Suzanne met the love of her life, Vince Marek in 1973 and they married in 1979.
Shortly after graduating, she started a drapery business with a close friend. Suzanne took a job at UT and then at the Texas Legislative Council (TLC) where she worked for 27 years. She was cherished by her co-workers, many of whom became great friends for life. After retiring from the State, Suzanne worked part time at Trinity Publications. After retiring a second time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family and traveling extensively with her beloved husband Vince and her many friends and family.
Suzanne was beautiful, intelligent, loving, creative, outgoing, fun-loving, and full of mischief―and she brought out the best in everyone. She had a wonderful energy that brightened any room she entered and a special gift for making friends everywhere she went.
Her easy smile and big blue eyes illuminated a lively spirit always up for fun, a laugh, or a warm hug. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds and she lavished it on her loved ones, both family and friends. Those bonds were deep and loyal, bringing her tremendous joy and comfort throughout her life.
Suzanne lived a fulfilling and joyous life, but nothing brought her more pleasure than her role as mother to Collin. She was so thrilled to welcome him into her and Vince’s lives. She cherished spending time with Collin and traveling to see him at UNT and later in Las Vegas.
Suzanne is survived by her husband of 47 years, Vince Marek, son Collin, brother Dr. J. Rex Wier III, and sister-in-law Dr. Elena Wier, niece Dr. Helen Lavelle and husband Dr. Kevin Lavelle and their children Owen and Vivian, nephew John Rex Wier IV, sister-in law Susie Marek, brother- and sister-in-law Henry and Helen Mary Marek, and nephews Harrison and Hudson Marek. She is also survived by her Aunt Lillie Wier, numerous cousins and other relatives, as well as the many many wonderful friends she’s met throughout her life from school (the “Golden Girls”), TLC, church, neighbors, etc.
She was preceded in death by her mother Sue Wier, father Rex Wier Jr., in-laws Charlie & Billie Lu Marek, and other treasured loved ones. Suzanne now too is at peace in the arms of the Lord.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to Pastor Wieser of Point of Grace, the caregivers and night-sitters who cared for her, and the many friends and family who provided extra support as well.
A Celebration of Life for Suzanne will be announced at a future date.
