

Sylvia Schneider Greenspan passed away at age 95 on Monday, January 19, 2015. She was born in Dallas on January 28, 1919, to Morris and Esther Schneider, and was a proud Dallas resident until the last few years of her life. Sylvia graduated from Forest Avenue High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education degree from Texas Women's University. In 1946 she married Hymie Greenspan of Waco, and together they raised two sons, Ira and Donald.
Sylvia was a gifted artist with a keen eye for detail. As a young woman she drew fashion advertisements for some of Dallas' leading retailers. A member of the Texas Fine Arts Association, she won numerous awards for her extraordinary still life oil paintings. She taught many young artists over the years, and was especially proud of her work with Russian immigrants. A lifelong member of Hadassah and Congregation Tiferet Israel, Sylvia was a dedicated volunteer.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Hymie, and her son, Ira. She is survived by her son Donny and his wife Amy, her daughter-in-law Patricia Greenspan and husband Bob Fleischman, her grandchildren, Adam Greenspan and Gina Manlove and husband Kyle, and her great-granddaughter Penelope Manlove, all of Austin, as well as her brother, Sol Schneider, of Tampa, Florida.
Graveside services will take place at 2 pm on Thursday, January 22, at Tiferet Israel's Agudas Achim cemetery, 7901 Scyene Road, Dallas.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Retirement and Nursing Center in Austin for years of excellent care. The Yoohoo Lady loved you all.
