Tauhlee was born in East Texas in 1915. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1932. Tauhlee received her bachelors degree in Home Economics from Texas Women’s College in Denton and taught high school in West Texas. Tauhlee moved to Austin to work on her master’s degree at the University of Texas and received her advanced degree in 1941 where she met and married Willis Pirtle Watts, an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. They have one daughter, Dr. Barbara Hatcher.
Tauhlee was a stellar seamstress, chef, and gardner. She excelled at flower arranging, decorating, and entertaining friends and family. She was President of the Violet Crown Garden Club and taught Sunday School at her church. Tauhlee and Pirtle enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, traveling to the national parks and many countries abroad. She was kind, loving, and a gentle spirit. All who knew her loved her. Tauhlee was only 2 months short of her 108th birthday.
