Edward Thomas Lynch, Jr. (USAF Ret.) passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Sagebrook Skilled Nursing Facility after a long fought battle with Parkinson's disease. Ted, as called by friends and family, was born on April 27, 1932 in Winthrop, MA to Edward and Ann Lynch.
Ted lived a fulfilling life serving the United States, attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, then joining the USAF in 1953 following his graduation. During his service, he achieved the rank of Lt.Col. and received several distinguishing awards, including Vietnam Service Medal, Distinguished Cross, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Readiness Medal. He started his military career as a flight instructor at Webb AFB in Big Spring, TX, where he met his wife Dixie in 1954 while stationed there. In 1957 he served in the Strategic Air Command at Pease AFB in Portsmouth, NH for nine years. In 1966 he served in the Military Airlift Command at McGuire AFB in New Jersey, where he made frequent flights to Vietnam delivering cargo. He volunteered for service in Vietnam and was sent to Luke AFB to train in the F100 followed by training in the 01 forward air control plane. He then moved his family to his wife's home town in Texas while he served in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam he was sent to Hickam AFB in Hawaii from 1968 to 1972 and then spent one year at Edwards AFB in California. From there he was stationed at Naval Air Field El Centro, CA until his retirement in 1978 to Austin, TX. He lived out his retired life as an active participant in his community, being a parishioner of St.Theresa Catholic Church, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, lector, Communion minister at St Theresa and Seton Northwest. After retirement he took a course to get his real estate license, but upon his completion he realized his true calling was a career in golfing five days a week which allowed him to take weekends off if he chose.
Through his life, Ted always maintained a love for his faith, family and friends, as well as a sense of humor and a contagious smile. The love he shared with his family will survive generations, and he will be missed by us until we are once again reunited before God.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ann Lynch, son, Michael, and sister Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Dixie; his children Teddy, Kerry, Kathie, Debbie and Marianne; his brother Ken; grandchildren, Christina, Joseph, Joshua, Mark, Michael, Daniel, Dillon, Jennifer, Jamie, Angela, Brian, Scott, Jason, Jacqueline, Kevin, Keith, Jacob, Katy; many great grandchildren, Autumn, Gabriel, Kaley, Connor, Brooklyn, Shannon, Katie, David, Lorelei, Audrey, Avee, Amara, Makahia, Robin, Varren, Mikey, Joseph, Faith, Raven, with three more on the way; niece Sally Thees; and nephew Stephen Shields.
The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org) to promote the research and development of medicine to eradicate the disease.
