Thadieth E. "Thad" Son, Jr., died on May 25, 2007, at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father, Thadieth E. Son, Sr., an Air Force Chaplain and an ordained Methodist minister, and by his mother, Ruth Harmon Son, a school teacher. He is survived by his wife, Carol C. Son; his cousin, Lisa Fallon and husband Patrick, and their daughter Sydney; by his much loved poodle, Romeo; and by many, many friends. Thad was awarded his BA Degree by the University of Texas in Austin. Later he graduated from the University of Texas Law School. He served as a criminal defense attorney in private practice in Austin, Texas for over 40 years and was active in the Austin Criminal Defense Lawyers' Association and in courthouse politics. Thad believed that every human being contained a spark of the Divine. His criminal defense practice was his calling. Not realizing he was gravely ill, Thad continued to work until he could no longer stand, walk, or drive himself to the courthouse. Thad's family is especially grateful to those attorneys who covered his case load during his hospitalization. Thad was a Life Master in Bridge and played duplicate bridge most of his life. He loved classical music, science fiction and history books, and being with his wife, friends, and pets. He was an avid UT football fan making many pithy comments about every play during each game. During his marriage to Carol, they attended several of Conspirare's Christmas concerts, Aida, The Phantom of the Opera, Mandy Patinkin singing Sondheim, Sarah Brightman's Harem, and finally, in February, Cirque du Soleil's Corteo, a beautiful and timely production about a performer's dream of his funeral and ascent to Heaven. Thad loved Cirque du Soleil's shows on television and wanted to attend a performance before he died. When he moved to Lakeway, Texas, Thad and others started Lake Travis United Methodist Church. He played the piano for hymns at the first services. A Celebration of Thad's life through scripture, music, and memories will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at 1:00 P.M. at Lake Travis United Methodist Church, 1502 Ranch Road 620 North, Lakeway, Texas 78734 (266-9877), Rev. Andy Smith presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Ministry of Lake Travis United Methodist Church. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
