

Thelma Sundquist Hobbs of Austin passed away the 17th of April, 2011. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on the 25th of February, 1919 to Gustave and Hanna Nelson Sundquist. Raised in El Paso, Cloudcroft, and Midland, but resided in Austin for the past 65 years. After graduating high school, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She married the love of her life, Samuel Vernon Hobbs. Thelma was a founding member of both the Austin Area Quilt Guild and Women in Construction, and a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel V. Hobbs; brother, Gus Sundquist, Jr.; sisters, Edythe Ledbetter and Elouise Carlton. Thelma is survived by daughters, Barbara Ann Harrington, and Carol Erwin her husband, Fred; grandsons, Micheal his wife, Elizabeth, Andy Erwin, Chip Erwin his wife, Sherrill, and Chad Erwin and wife, Regina; great-grandchildren, Emily, Clayton, Jake, Ben, Christopher, Alexandria; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Catina Anthony for her care and kindness. Friends are invited to a visitation from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening, Tuesday, the 19th of April at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin. The funeral service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, the 20th of April at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks.
