Thomas "Tommy" Jackson

Thomas “Tommy” Wright Jackson was born in Austin, Texas, on August 4, 1958, and spent his entire life in the city he loved. From his early years causing trouble in Westlake and tearing up Austin to the life he built as a father, grandfather, businessman, coach, and friend, Tommy lived life with charm, humor, and a genuine love for the people and places around him.

In 1992, Tommy opened Tommy Jackson Homes, building a career and reputation through hard work, ingenuity, and a remarkable ability to figure out just about anything. If something needed fixing, Tommy could usually fix it himself, or, as he liked to say, he “had a guy.” He was the kind of person who could solve a problem, lend a helping hand, and, when he didn’t have the answer himself, always seemed to know exactly who to call. A few years later, Tommy joined forces with David Patrick to create Jackson-Patrick Homes. For decades, the two made a dynamic team, leaving their mark on countless custom homes throughout Austin and building not only beautiful homes, but a lasting legacy in the city.

Tommy’s greatest pride, however, was his family. He coached his daughters in their all their sports, cheered them on from the sidelines, and was a deeply involved dad. He never missed a practice, game, recital, show, or competition. He carried that same enthusiasm into being a grandfather, taking great joy in watching his grandchildren grow.

A lifelong Austinite and devoted sports fan, Tommy followed all things Texas sports and was a passionate Longhorn fan. The Jacksons were a sports family, rarely missing a Longhorn game, and Tommy proudly passed that tradition, and his love for the Longhorns, down to his two daughters and their children.

Tommy’s second love was golf, spending many Saturdays and Sundays on the course with friends and his son-in-law. He cherished the time spent together, the friendships made, and, of course, the game itself. Just as he had with the Longhorns, Tommy hoped to pass his love of golf on to his grandchildren

Tommy had a true green thumb and could seemingly grow anything from nothing. Tomatoes, lettuce, radishes, green beans, you name it, he could make it grow. His garden was a reflection of the patience, resourcefulness, and care he brought to so many things in life.

He had an especially big heart for dogs and was rarely without a beloved golden retriever or lab by his side. His dogs were family, and he cherished every one of them. One his best memories was surprising his daughters with their first pet, a black lab named Jake.

Tommy loved country music, a good two-step, and a good time. He was a man who knew how to enjoy life, and his presence, stories, humor, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Jiles and Evalyon Jackson, and his beloved dogs and grand-dogs, Rebel, Jake, Augie, Joanie, Chiyo, Gigi and Riley.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Natalie and Derrick Krobusek and Bailey and Josh Atkins; his grandchildren, Archer Atkins, Ryan Atkins, and Joseph Krobusek; his two older brothers and their wives, Garey and Katherine Jackson and Brian and Susie Jackson; his former wife, Janie Jackson; his former wife Jennifer Luna and her sons, James Dean, Elvis, and Eli; and his best friend of more than 60 years, John Piciandra.

Tommy leaves behind a lifetime of memories in the city he called home, but most of all, he leaves behind people who loved him, learned from him, laughed with him, and will carry his memory with them for years to come.

He was one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed.
