

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tommy Merrell—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—who left this world on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply.
Tommy lived a life defined by kindness, sincerity, and quiet strength. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and truly loved. His warm smile and genuine heart left a lasting impression on all who had the joy of knowing him. To know him was to feel cared for—whether through a helping hand, a listening ear, or a perfectly timed joke that could bring laughter even in the darkest moments. He approached every day with genuine positivity and hope.
For 58 beautiful years, Tommy shared an enduring love with his wife, Pat Merrell—a partnership grounded in respect, laughter, and unwavering support. As a father, he was a steadfast role model to his son Greg, a supportive father-in-law to Lori, and a devoted grandfather to Everett and Ella. Whether coaching Greg’s baseball team or cheering from the stands at his grandchildren’s events, Tommy was always present—offering wisdom, encouragement, and joy. He led by example, teaching integrity, compassion, and resilience through his everyday actions. Tommy’s commitment and dedication to his strong sense of responsibility was admired by many.
A talented athlete and lifelong sports enthusiast, Tommy found joy both in competition and camaraderie. Whether playing, coaching, or cheering from the sidelines, his love for the game was matched only by his love for people. He tackled challenges with quiet determination, strategy, and a great sense of humor—often pulling off the best practical jokes that became cherished family stories.
Tommy’s legacy is one of deep love, boundless laughter, and quiet heroism. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a community made better by his presence. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every moment we shared with him—and we will carry his memory with us always.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; his son Greg and daughter-in-law Lori; grandchildren Everett and Ella; his brother John Merrell and sister-in-law Marcie; and their sons Barry and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Evelyn Merrell.
A celebration of life for Tommy will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of your choosing, in honor of Tommy's generous and giving spirit.
