Thomas Robert Winkley, the sweetest father and husband, left our lives Monday, October 17th, 2016. Tom was the most generous person we were lucky to have known, and his love and energy remains with all of his loved ones and friends. Tom, most recently, was the president of Winkley Engineering, Inc. Throughout his life, he was an avid water skier, snow skier, musician, poet, thinker, environmentalist, creator, and friend.
Tom was born January 14th, 1949 at Seton Hospital in Austin to Brien Robert Winkley and Genevieve George Winkley. Tom grew up in Loveland, CO, and Austin, TX. He graduated from St. Edwards High School and received his BS and MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas - Austin. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
Tom is survived by his wife Carol; son Chris Winkley and daughter Maurine Winkley; sisters Gail Podhaisky and Rita Winkley; mother-in-law Maurine Thomason; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marjorie and Bill Hanshaw, Mike Thomason, and Teresa and John Harris; and beloved nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held to celebrate the life Tom lived and the way he touched all of our lives.

Tom wrote this poem for a friend of the family that passed away too soon in 2010, and even though he had a rich life, we feel he left ours too soon as well…
A GENTLE SOUL CAME INTO OUR LIVES
MAYBE HE WAS DRIFTING THROUGH
LEAVING LOVE, LAUGHTER, TEARS AND JOY
SPENDING TIME KEEPING US ALIVE WITH
A WONDER AND HEART OF AN OLD SOUL
KNOWING THE POSSIBILITIES OF SUFFERING
AND THE PLEASURES IN HEALING
HE WAS NOT A DRIFTER BUT A GIVER
AND SEEKER IN OPENING DREAMS
WE FELT THAT HE LEFT TOO SOON
WE HAD MUCH MORE TO LEARN
THAT HE WILL CONTINUE TEACHING
TO OTHERS
AND US
