

Long time Austin resident, Toni Wright, age 73, passed away on August 5th due to cancer. Toni was born in east St. Louis, IL. Her parents were Floyd L. Wright and Doris Gates Wright. She graduated from Austin High School in 1965 where she was a member of the Red Jackets. Shortly after high school graduation, while working for Southwestern Bell, she was crowned “Miss Labor” of the Austin AFL-CIO. She attended the University of Texas where she studied accounting and was voted a Sweetheart of the Navy R.O.T.C. cadettes. Toni’s career spanned several decades working for and retiring from the State of Texas.
She cherished her time spent with family, friends and neighbors. One of her favorite pastimes was attending craft shows with her mother and sister. Her favorite hobbies included gardening and festively decorating her home for each major holiday. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and native American art especially anything and everything Gecko. Many evenings she could be found sitting on her lovely back patio, enjoying the sunset near her bubbling fountain with a coffee cup in her hand and her cat, Punkin, in her lap.
Toni was preceded in death by her beloved son, Baron Thomas Bonds, her precious Boston Terrier, Forrest, and her father. She is survived by her mother, Doris Wright, her sister, Connie Campos, her grandson, Blake Thomas Bonds, her niece, Yvette Cleveland, and great niece and nephew and many dear friends.
A private service is being held August 25, 2021
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Toni’s honor to either the American Cancer Society or the Austin Animal Center.
