Dr. VC Smart, Jr. passed away quietly Tuesday morning, February 2, at the age of 88, after a long bout with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, physician and friend whose passions included a love of the Lord, his family, his work, flying, dancing, roses, hunting and nature. He grew up in Spur, Texas, but moved to Austin to establish his medical practice, first as a general practitioner and then as an allergist. He cared for generations of patients, continued his medical education and supported his profession through serving in various capacities on medical boards, associations and societies and supported the Austin Symphony, missionaries and countless other organizations. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Bette Smart of Katy, TX; his daughter, Elizabeth Smart of Portland, OR and his granddaughter, Hilary Smart of Austin, TX. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, at First Evangelical Free Church, 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd, Austin 78749. If you would like to contribute to a worthy cause in our father's name, please support the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, or First Evangelical Free Church of Austin.
