

Vera Lilly Dunlap, age 97, passed away August 23rd 2014 at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Care Center in Cedar Park, Texas. Vera is a native of Butler, Missouri where she was born on February 12, 1917 to Thomas Jefferson Smith and Nancy Columbia Smith. Vera met her husband Thomas Austin Dunlap at a baseball game in Butler, Missouri in 1934. They were married on September 30, 1934.
Vera and her husband Tom were avid Square Dancers throughout their life together. Vera was dedicated to her family, constantly supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their endeavors. Vera treasured doing all she could for her family and friends, she was a wonderful hostess always enjoying cooking and entertaining for those close to her. Vera was Deaconess in her church First Presbyterian Church in Gardner, KS. Vera and her girlfriends were dedicated Lady Longhorn fans for as many years as they could attend. Other interests included dominos with her girlfriends and gardening in her yard.
Vera is preceded in death by her loving husband Tom of 50 years, her grandsons Dan Mayberry and Michael James Shaffer and five of her siblings. Vera is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws Patsy & James Shaffer of Austin, Texas and Donna & Larry Pearce of Gardner, Kansas, her grandchildren Connie Mayberry-Green and her husband Dave of Gardner, KS, Kimberly Matus and her husband Benny of Pflugerville, TX, Deanna Shaffer of Vista, CA, Susan Pearce-Glover and her husband Montez of Gardener, KS, Thomas Shaffer and his wife Debra of Round Rock, TX and Jeff Shaffer and his wife Tina of Arvada, CO and her thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home on Tuesday the 26th of August at 10:00AM. Cook-Walden is located at 6100 North Lamar Blvd. in Austin, Texas 78752.
Burial services will be help at Gardner Cemetery on South Poplar Street in Gardner, Kansas at 10:00AM Friday morning, August 29th.
