Verena was born in Ben Arnold, TX to Edward Joe and Eleanora (Aigner) Schuetze on January 4, 1933.
As an adult, the activities she enjoyed most were playing games, gardening, fishing (when she could) and sewing. She was a master seamstress who could make anything, but what she loved most was being outdoors. If you wanted to know something about gardening, she was happy to educate you.
At the age of 56, and the death of her husband, she returned to full-time work to support herself. She worked for the State of Texas and retired after approximately 15 years. During this time, she managed to buy a house and various vehicles of which her last was a red pickup truck. She said she always wanted a pickup. We were all proud of what she accomplished all by herself. In 2017, she moved to an independent living facility to which she looked forward to returning. One of her goals was to live as long as her mother, who died at the age of 102. Recently, she came to realize she wouldn’t make her goal, but she still gave it her best shot.
Verena was predeceased by her husband, Nelson M. Cravatt in 1989 after 36 years of marriage. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Charlotte (Joe) Ward of The Woodlands, TX, Patricia (Jim) Reedy of Leander, TX and Alan (Ali) Cravatt of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren; Shawna (Greg) Harward and Andrea (Richard) Wright, 5 great-grandchildren; Lynden, Jena, Nelson, Alora and Ella; 2 brothers; Clarence Schuetze and Robert Lee Schuetze and 1 sister, Shirley Dornhoefer.
