Vicki was preceded in her death by her parents, her daughter Tara, her adopted sister and best friend Mitzi and her husband Jack Ladner. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ronnie, her daughter Crystal (husband-to-be Teejay Pope), and her faithful grand-pup Bella Bear.
She is also survived by her brothers Mike Bess (husband David), Tony Bess, and Ronald “Scooter” Bess (wife Stephanie), nieces Meagan and Randi and nephew Dakota; sisters-in-law Brenda, Sharon, Debbie, brothers-in-law Bo and Donnie, and many nieces and nephews.
Vicki settled in Hudson Bend, Austin, Texas in 1968, and graduated from Dripping Springs in 1975. She worked at Lakeway in when she met her husband-to-be at age 20. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and took her job of family chef, homeroom mom, Booster Club president, and community mum-maker very seriously. In her free time, she enjoyed being the resident party planner for all her friends’ daughters and relatives, annoying her husband with endless HSN/QVC packages on the doorstep, and relentlessly trying to persuade her daughter to watch all her favorite trashy shows. The beach was her happy place, and the lake was a close second.
She will be remembered for having a huge heart and was always there when you needed her… sometimes when you didn’t even know you needed it. She was “Mama Biggs” to everyone and always gave the perfect advice for the situation. Her cooking skills were second to none, and she spoiled Ronnie and Crystal with her delicious home-cooked meals every chance she got, and no one will ever be able to make Granny Toot’s dressing or salad like she could.
Although her battle with cancer was extremely short and she was taken from us so quickly, we know she is no longer in pain and at peace. Mama: Tell Tara that Daddy and I say Hi and that we love and miss you both so much. But we will feel you every time we see a red cardinal, cook using one of your unwritten recipes, or hear the waves crashing on the shore.
A visitation for Vicki will take place at Lake Travis Event Center on June 24, 2021 from 5-7pm. Services will be held at Lake Travis Event Center on June 25, 2021 at 10am, with a graveside burial at Cook Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rexanna’s Foundation to support and engage in activities focused on increasing the survival rate of lung cancer patients.
