Vincent A. Mariani, 93, of West Lake Hills, Austin, Texas, Professor of Art, at Cooper School of Art, Cleveland, Ohio and (almost 50 years) at University of Texas, passed away peacefully, in his sleep, Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
He was a U.S Army Korean War veteran, a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Art, and Yale University.
Vincent believed in the balance of body, mind and spirit. Among his many awards, Vincent was chosen as Mr. Cleveland for his amazing body building. His art awards are too numerous to include in this short announcement but important to mention that Vincent was chosen to create the 1976 Olympic poster. He lectured at the United Nations about art, science and education and was invited by the World Peace Center to be a member and chosen as designer and sculptor.
Vincent had his One-Man Show, Gimpel & Weitzenhoffer Gallery, New York, Westinghouse permanent collection). “Selected student of Joseph Albers”, Carpenter Center, Harvard University. He designed and presented the lifetime achievement sculpture to James Michener. Vincent’s mission was to inspire and elevate, his work transformed art into light. So many have been enhanced by his work. He shall be remembered as the “Celestial Terrestrial.”
He is survived by sons, Vince R. Mariani and Mark A. Mariani, daughter-in-law Niko, sister Maria R. Ackley, and brother Michael J. Mariani, sister-in-law Dorothy Mariani, nephews Dean V. Mariani, and Doug Mariani, nieces Debbie Hopkins, Jackie Mariani, Valerie Mariani Lajiness, and Sarena Ackley, granddaughter Rainah Ackley, and cousins Romano Mazzoli and Roger Mariani.
