Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishnorth.com for the Sidharta family
Vincentius Sidharta (Ronald Sie Poo Liat) was born on April 25, 1933, in Malang, Indonesia, to Sidik Sidarta (Sie Ping Lee)† and Kwee Giok Pwan Nio (Lely)†. He grew up in Malang with his sister Vonny† and brother Leo†. Opa Lee owned a stationary shop. Oma Lely was a concert pianist and raised her children in a house full of classical music. When she passed, Opa Lee remarried Juliati Setiadji (Oma Juul)†, who was a loving stepmother. Ronald attended St. Albertus Catholic High School in Malang. He was an avid swimmer, tennis player, and Eagle Scout. He loved fishing, camping, and loved to hike many of the local mountains in Java. After high school, Ronald continued his studies at Universitas Airlangga Medical School. He graduated with a medical degree in 1961. He met the love of his life, Theresia Goenawan (Maudy Goei), in Surabaya and they were married in 1962. Together, they built a life in Surabaya. They were blessed with four children: Irwan, Guido, Rubi and Lina. Ronald became a doctor for the Police Department in Surabaya, as well as opened his private practice in Bogowonto 5. He was also the Medical Director of Rumah Sakit Katolik St. Vincentius a Paulo (RKZ). To prepare their children for a better future, Ronald and Theresia sent their children to study and live in the United States, while they continued to work in Surabaya. Ronald was an active member in several communities. He led the Rukun Tetangga (RT) for the Bogowonto, Surabaya area to keep harmony and security in the neighborhood. He was active in various Church social activities, including the Catholic Orphanages renovation projects, and he led the RKZ nurse housing project. He also made medical visits to leprosy centers and attended social events with the Lions Club. Ronald loved to fish. He had a small motor boat named “Lina” and often went on deep sea fishing expeditions with friends, to catch barracuda. He’s always loved all animals, and one day decided to stop his fishing hobby completely. He retired from his private practice in 2011. In January 2019, he and his wife immigrated to Austin, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. There, they became parishioners of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church. After a battle with dementia, Ronald was called home to God, surrounded by the love of his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, who cared for him tirelessly during his battle, as well as his four children, six grandchildren, and first great-grandchild.
The family thanks you for your presence at this service. Your prayers, love, friendship, and support are greatly appreciated.
