Viola graduated from Howard County Junior College as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1961. She arrived in Austin in 1968 and began nursing work at Brackenridge Hospital. She continued her education and proudly graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and from the University of Texas School of Public Health with a Master of Public Health degree.
Viola was employed by the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department in 1974 and served in various positions ending in Health Program Manager, retiring in 1998.
Viola then enjoyed a full and happy retirement, travelling the world with friends and with the Flying Longhorns.
Viola is survived by her husband Fabian S. Gomez, III, daughter Delilah Gomez, son Edward John Gomez, granddaughters Marissa Gomez and Amanda Gomez, and great granddaughter Mariana Amora.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750, US, on September 13, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750, US, on September 14, 2026, at 11:00 am. We will go in procession to Austin Memorial Park Cemetery where she will be laid to rest, 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 7873.
