

Virginia Richards Olson died peacefully at age 84 at her home in The Woodlands early Saturday morning June 13, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born in San Marcos, Texas November 15, 1924, the youngest daughter of Harold Richards and Sue Cox Richards. She spent her early life in San Marcos and after a brief move to Austin in 1940, the family moved to Round Rock where she graduated from high school in 1942. After graduation, Virginia began working in her father's business, H. Richards Oil Co, and in October 1946 married an ex-GI from Iowa, James (Jimmy) Erick Olson. This union was blessed with five lucky daughters. Virginia spent the next years raising the girls and making a home for her family. Later she joined Jimmy in the business he co-founded, Capital City Oil Co., working side by side until retirement. After retirement they moved to Wimberley where they enjoyed grandkids, golfing, card playing, Mah-Jongg, and a host of new friends. After Jimmy's' death in 1993, Virginia moved to The Woodlands to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. Here she continued her love of golf, Mah-Jongg, card playing and making new friends. She is survived by her daughters Ann Butler and husband Floyd of Junction, Texas; Rae Eckhart of The Woodlands, Texas; Kay Lyn Brown and husband Rich of Haverstraw, New York; Kim Perkins and husband David of Beaumont, Texas and Dee Anderson and husband Kenny of Spring, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brad Sutton and wife Jessica, Josh and Erik Butler, Bill Eckhart, Travis, Laura Anne, and Emily Hughes, Richie, Erin, and Britney Brown, Katie and Ellen Perkins, Caroline, James and Robert Anderson, great-grandchildren, Grant, Trey, Tristan, David, and Jasmine . She was predeceased by her husband James E. Olson, son-in-law James M. Eckhart, sister Catherine Beasley and husband John, sister Barbara Perkins and husband Ray, brothers Harold Richards, Jr. and Dr. B.C. Richards and brother-in-law Tom Hutchison. She is survived by a sister Dorothy Hutchison of Austin, a brother Jim Richards and his wife Catherine of Dallas, and two sisters-in-law Lillian Richards of Austin and Janice Jackson and husband Will of Dallas. Also surviving are beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15th at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Weed-Corley-Fish North, 3125 North Lamar, Austin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Susan G Komen Foundation or the charity of your choice.
