

Virginia Lucile Teel Virginia Lucile (Lucy) Teel, age 79, of Austin, Texas died on August 15, 2003. Lucy attended and had degrees from both the University of Michigan and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a math teacher for the Austin Independent School District at Lamar Jr. High and for many years at Lanier High School. She enjoyed teaching advanced math courses and sponsoring student activities connected with them. She liked gardening, traveling, and attending the opera, here in Austin and in New York. She was a volunteer at the Governors Office, helping with correspondence under both Democratic and Republican Administrations. She was also very active in the Austin Retired Teachers Association. Lucy was a member of the University Avenue Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, Robert Teel of Lubbock, Texas; her daughter, Barbara Sonin of Winters, California; sister, Helen Cameron of Barton, Michigan and brother, Robert Barnes of Alexandria, Virginia. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eli Teel, her father and mother, and her stepmother and two brothers. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 26th at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Burt Crowson and Dean Smith officiating. Burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park.
