Her first real job/adventure was working for Southwestern Bell in San Antonio in September of 1948. She told stories of living downtown with her roommates. She ultimately married a military man, Lloyd Lewis of Cutbank, Montana, in June of 1954. During a hiatus from the Air Force, they briefly lived in his hometown area and she experienced her first Montana winter. After re-enlisting in the Air Force, they moved to Tucson, Az, where both of her children were born, Raymond and Milinda. Then it was Glasgow, Mt, Sevilla, Spain (for 3 years), Grand Forks, ND, and ultimately Austin, in 1966. After Lloyd retired from the AF in 1973, it was back to Belt, Montana for 6 years. Upon deciding to part ways with Lloyd, she and Milinda headed to Texas, but decided to stay in Las Vegas for a couple of years. They ultimately made it back to Austin, where she remained in the area for the remainder of her life.
During her time in Elgin, Tx, she became re-acquainted with, and fell in love with an old family friend, Gordon “Bubba” Martin. While they were only married for 7 years, they remained very close for the duration of their lives. We will forever think highly of the Martin family.
She worked for the phone company in most of her residences, audited tax returns for the IRS, and worked for the Meat and Poultry Inspection service until her retirement in 1991. She helped raise her grandson, Mark, traveled with Bubba, and spent time in the Hill Country with both of her husbands and her children. She loved to read, enjoyed her arts and crafts, visiting with friends, going to thrift stores, and an occasional trip to a casino. She had a good sense of humor, was kind, hardworking, practical and compassionate. She had an adventurous spirit.
She passed on May 24th, 2026 and was preceded in death by almost everyone she knew.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Lewis, daughter, Milinda Waszczak, and grandson, Mark Waszczak. Although she has relatives all over West Texas, she was closest to the Montana in laws, the Richard Ferderer family of Great Falls, Mt, in particular her niece Darlene Deichert.
Also, a special note of thanks to the residents and staff of the Eden Heights Apts. In New Braunfels, where she lived for most of her final 8 years. A life well lived.
