

W.J. Jay Poynor, Sr. Jay Poynor, 79, passed away December 7, 2005 following an auto accident. Jay was born in Brady, Texas on August 18, 1926. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1947 and moved to Odessa where he raised five children and was an active civic leader. While living in Odessa, Jay took an active role in his church, business community and childrens lives. He served on the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Chuck Wagon Gang, Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Association, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, Jesters, Ector County Childrens Services Board, OALU, TALU, and NALU. Jay served on the Board of Directors of the Texas A&M Former Students Association, Board of Directors of Ector County Hospital, Council of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, and as a Session Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa. Jay dedicated his life, both personally and professionally, to helping others. In 2000, he moved to Austin where he served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church and continued his mission of helping others through various organizations. He has undoubtedly touched the lives of more people than any of us will ever know. Jay is survived by his wife Daffy Poynor; mother - Lorena Poynor; brother - Jamie Poynor; children - Molly Monroe and husband Mike of La Porte, Dusty Poynor of Garland, Steve Poynor of Odessa, Mike Poynor and wife Shirley of Austin, and Becky Lambeth and husband Eric of Austin; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren all of whom will miss him very much. Visitation will be 12-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 South Congress Avenue in Austin. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Austin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15.
