He graduated from M.B. Smiley High School in 1971. He was married in 1973 to Joy Marie Knaak. They moved to Austin in 1982 where he continued his passion for music! Shortly after, he began his 27 year career as a Telecommunications Specialist with the State of Texas. In 1986, they blessed their family with the birth of their daughter Robyn Marie.
Sonny’s love for family and music was a focal point of his life.
He was survived by his mother Dora Dean Riley, his daughter Robyn, his wife Joy, his sister Mary Magee, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter James Riley.
Family and friends are invited to join in the “Celebration of Sonny’s Life” held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Services will continue Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at Brookside Funeral Home at 13747 Eastex Freeway (Hwy 59 N) in Houston, Texas.
