Walter was born in Austin, Texas on October 22, 1950, to the union of Walter B. Maxwell, Jr. and Helen Jean Johnson Maxwell. Affectionately called “Son” by family, he was the middle child and only son.
Son was a truck driver, traveling in and out of state. He loved driving big rigs and owned a truck and SUV always driving with his arm out the window and playing his old school music. His friends in fact nicknamed him “Old School”. Son received his education in the Austin Independent School District. His sister Verna Jean often told stories of him playing hooky from school; he would be at the local creek fishing, playing baseball or roller skating, all of which he did very well. His roller skating was not to be topped by anyone in the neighborhood. Being the only son, his parents were very lenient on him, no chores for him that his two sisters should do. He played baseball with the local city league as a left-handed pitcher. Walter will forever be remembered for his wit, love of western movies, being a Dallas Cowboys fan and the best barbecue man in Texas.
Walter lived a good life, and he fought a good fight to remain here with us, but God had a better plan to end his suffering. Walter is now in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Rest my brother, my dad, Granddad, Uncle Son, My Dear Friend. See you later, with all our love.
Walter is survived by his sister, Verna Falkquay “Jean”; best friend, Ruby Maxwell; children, Lisa, Walter IV, LA Juan, Jasmine (Steven Parker), Maurice and Toby; grandchildren, Charletta, Charmira, St'vaiyah Marie, Steven Jr., Michael, Quinton, and Adrien; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Faith, Janae, Shamya and Da’Montrae; uncle, David Johnson of LaMarque Texas; aunts, Alice Collins of San Antonio Texas, LaVern Johnson of Los Angeles California and Francine Jones of Harford, Connecticut; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his youngest sister, Anita "Sweetie" Kelly.
