

He was baptized as an infant on September 27, 1939, and confirmed on April 11, 1957, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, and later became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Austin. Walter was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cedar Park, later becoming a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin. He was proud to be a member of St. Paul. He loved his daily Portals of Prayer, Sunday Bible Study, and church, and was confident in his faith.
As the oldest of six siblings, Walter quit business school as a young adult and went to work full time to support the family when his dad had tuberculosis. He helped distribute Bibles with the Gideons on the sidewalks outside high schools, and walked to raise money for Bread for the World. He was a responsible young man and a loving brother, and loved deep sea fishing with his brothers and taking his sisters to Six Flags. He loved his country, serving in the Army Reserve. He was a member of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society.
He worked for HEB for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. He supported charities that reflected Christian values, and also loved cameras, computers, and travel. He loved his trips to Europe, Hawaii, and especially the Amtrak train to Canada. He also loved to vacation in Colorado and the Silverton train. He was always known as a very nice, smart man, soft spoken and big hearted. He was kind, always supportive, and a great listener.
Walter has joined his parents, brother Elo Toll, sister Beverly Strickland, and brothers in law Chuck Ferguson and Ray Strickland in heaven. He leaves behind his brother and sisters: J.C. Toll and wife Linnie of Cedar Park, Texas; Evelyn Ferguson of Leander, Texas; and Linda Knapp and husband Eric of Austin, Texas. He also leaves behind his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.
His funeral service will take place this Saturday, July 11th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River, Austin. Visitation will begin at one o'clock, and the service will begin at 2 o'clock. Burial will be at Cook Walden Capital Parks at 3:30. Praise be to God for His grace and mercy!
