Wanda Nell Griffis

She is survived by her husband, Jarret F. Griffis, daughter and son-in-law, Deana and James Perry of Austin and son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Janna Griffis of Austin. Grandchildren include Caleb Perry, Sydney Perry, Jacob Perry, Garrett Griffis, Graham Griffis, and Gillian Griffis. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil Jenkins of Florence, Texas.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Boyd and Ada Lee Jenkins.

Growing up, Wanda lived in and around Austin as well as Corpus Christi as her father traveled working as an ironworker. She also lived briefly in Bremerton, WA where her father worked to repair ships damaged in the Pearl Harbor attack. Wanda and Jerry were married in his parent’s home on August 27, 1955 in Corpus Christi after which they moved to San Diego, CA where Jerry was stationed in the U.S. Navy. While living in San Diego, Wanda worked at the famous El Cortez Hotel which was a favorite hangout of many of Hollywood’s stars at the time. When Jerry was discharged from the service they moved to Corpus Christi and later back to Austin where they remained. Wanda loved her children and grandchildren and always enjoyed talking business and real estate. Her guidance and wisdom will be deeply missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with services beginning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Patrick Wilson. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
