Wanda was preceded in death by parents, J.C. and Zella Kay and brother, James Kay. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Rodney Malone; son, Douglas (spouse-DeAnna), daughters, Tammy (spouse-Lisa), and Holly (spouse-Steve); grandchildren, Jake, Jenni, Addison, and Hutchison; her loving brother Cullen Kay; nephews, Ricky and Greg; nieces, Cynthia and Gina; and great nephew Kristopher.
Wanda was born on April 21, 1940 in Kosse, TX. She graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1958. After attending business school in Forth Worth, TX she married Rodney Malone, her high school sweetheart, an Electrical Engineering student from the University of Texas on June 4, 1960 and moved to Austin. Soon after purchasing their first home the couple welcomed three children into their lives and set about teaching them the skills of leading a productive life. In 1976, Rodney, with Wanda by his side, started their own business, The Sail & Ski Center, an award-winning boat dealership and one that has thrived and served its employees and the central Texas community for over 40 years.
Wanda was a passionate cook and baker and owned, alongside her best friends in her neighborhood, a specialty pastry catering business when her children were of school age. Their creations were highly sought after and profoundly delicious. Wanda inherited the cooking gene from her Mother Zella Kay. The holidays (Christmas was her favorite) were an opportunity for her to “spread the love” to her family, friends and co-workers. Another passion was physical fitness, Wanda spent many a day fitness walking and loved to stay fit and active, to say she was disciplined is an understatement. Passions aside, family was everything to her, she was so proud of her husband and their accomplishments together, especially their children and her greatest joy after retirement, her grandchildren. Every heart leaves a lasting imprint and Wanda’s has left an indelible imprint on the lives she touched.
Special thanks to Shannon Crawford, and Star Johnson for your years of fun and friendship, to our extended family at Sail & Ski, and to the caregivers and therapists at Longhorn Village, we are forever in your debt.
