

Wayne was born in a farmhouse in Coryell County Texas, 14 miles west of Gatesville to parents William C. Young and Vella M. Freeman Young. He committed himself to the Lord and was baptized in 1947. Wayne attended and graduated Gatesville High School in May 1948. By November 8, of that same year, he entered the United States Army completing basic training at Camp Hood Texas and Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
On May 19, 1949 Wayne married Edna Pauline Floyd, the love of his life, in Gatesville, Texas. With $40.00 between them they headed to Fort Benning, GA. In 1950, while stationed at Fort Story, VA their son Ron was born. Wayne was deployed to Greenland where he helped build the Thule Airbase.
After his tour, Wayne enlisted in the Army Reserves. Shortly afterwards Wayne was recalled and promptly sent to Korea. Wayne remembers Korea as the coldest he had ever been and remained cold natured the rest of his days. In 1952 he was discharged with honors.
After returning to the states Wayne, Pauline, and their son Ronnie moved to Austin, Texas where he started his career of 37 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 1961 their daughter Joy was born.
Wayne held a variety of positions with Southwestern Bell/ AT&T from frame to lineman, working his way up to management. He often told how he installed all the phones at IBM Austin where Joy works. Wayne retired in December 1989.
Wayne loved gardening, fishing and attending every grandchild event he could. He enjoyed square dancing with his favorite partner, Pauline, in the Promenader's Square Dance Club. Together they danced for over 30 years with close friends and with many a promenade left. He was a dedicated member of Crestview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for several years. During retirement, Wayne and Pauline were "On the Road Again" (his favorite Willy song) traveling the United States and Canada until 2007. At 88 years, he could still tell you details about every place they visited and the fun they had.
Wayne was preceded in death by daughter Penny Lynn Young and his oldest grandson Cody Wayne Young. He is survived by his wife of 70 Years, Pauline Floyd Young. Also surviving is his son Ronald Dwayne Young and Sylvia, granddaughter Christy Lynn Young Lacy and her husband Brock, and two great-grandchildren, Landon Cody and lrelynn Grace. His daughter Joy Elaine Young Silva and husband Richard, grandson Zachary White and wife Erica and granddaughter Miranda White. He is also survived by his brother Maurice Young of King, Texas and sister Marilyn Young Shine and her husband Richard of Little River, Texas as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and aunts whom he dearly loved.
Wayne's quick wit and never ending smile will be deeply missed.
