Weldon Lee Berry passed into Jesus’ arms unexpectedly on July17, 2018 of a brain aneurysm. He was surrounded by his loving family - who will miss him deeply. Weldon never meet anyone that he didn’t treat as a friend. He loved to talk to people and to make them feel special. He always treated everyone as he wished to be treated. Not only was he always there to talk to his family he liked to feed us as well! His homemade bread from Grandma’s recipe and homemade kolaches from Nannie’s recipe were always a welcome treat. He spoiled us with special treats like coconut custard pie, from scratch, to let us know he loved us just in case we forgot. But above all Weldon loved his family. He was always there for us without hesitation. He had great joy in helping his family out. He made many sacrifices for those he loved without hesitation. He just wanted us to be happy and feel loved – and we did. His love and caring nature will carry us through the remainder of our lives until we meet again in Heaven.
Other loves of Weldon’s life were his yard and painting. He had the greenest of thumbs and would spend endless hours tending to his flowers while talking to God. Weldon also loved to paint flowers and share his artwork. We are very fortunate to have many examples of his love hanging on our walls.
Weldon attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin for over 50 years. He loved attending church and counting the offering with his accounting team. His dry sense of humor kept everyone on their toes. He retired from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality almost 25 years ago.
Weldon is survived by a loving and devoted wife of 56 years – Martha Berry; two daughters who meant the world to him and him to them –Amanda Berry, and Kim Herndon and Chris Herndon her spouse; and his pride and joy his grandson Zakary Grue. We can’t forget the grand dogs in his life that brought him joy – Charlie, Jasper, and Layla – who will miss him and his treats greatly.
Weldon is also survived by his sister Joan Rutherford and brother Elton Berry as well as numerous family members whom he loved. His parents Allyne and Red Berry precede him in death. Weldon came into this world on August 21, 1938. He was born in Goose Creek, Texas and grew up most of his young life in Taylor, Texas. After he married the love of his life on June 23, 1962 the couple headed to Midwest City, Oklahoma were Weldon served in the United States Air Force. The couple returned to Texas and made their home in Austin, Texas for the last 52 years.
