Wess was born on August 11, 1951, in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Creedmoor, Texas, and spent most of his life there and in his later years he lived in Lockhart, Texas.
Wess graduated from Dell Valley High School in 1970. In 1976, he graduated from AMC’s School of Automobile Refrigeration Service, developing skills that would serve him throughout his life. He also spent many years supporting the Austin-Travis County Livestock Show and Rodeo and was recognized for outstanding support of the 1984 Austin-Travis County Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Wess was known as a good man with a kind heart and a genuine interest in the people around him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it. He had a way of making friends wherever he went, and people were naturally drawn to him because he took a sincere interest in their lives and was always willing to help.
Wes had a profound love of fishing, traversing the Texas coast line, camping, farming, spending time working the land and staying close to nature. Whether out on the water, or simply exploring something new he found happiness in the outdoors and simple pleasures of life.
Wess also enjoyed country dancing, barbecuing with the custom pit he helped build, and attending chili cook-offs. He enjoyed the camaraderie, good food, and time spent with others.
Wess is survived by his four children, Jason Pogue and wife Stephanie, Cheryl Miller and husband Donovan, Jennifer Bradley and husband Stephen, and Daniel Pogue and his wife Jenn; his grandchildren, Carsten, Jordan, Kalyn, Zeke, Maggie, Corbin, Carter, and Charlotte; and his great-granddaughter, Dahlia.

Wess will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered not only for the things he enjoyed in life, but for the way he treated people along the way.
