

Bill graduated from Austin High in 1939 and attended the University of Texas. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy in April 1942 and served in the Pacific theater on board the USS Kalinin Bay and USS Savo Island until November 1945. He returned home to finish his undergraduate degree at UT. On August 29, 1947, Bill married Beatrice Taylor and the two of them were married until Bea’s death on November 2, 2013. Bill worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co and IBM before returning to Austin and starting a business with Tony Luttrell in the early 1960’s, General Office Equipment Company from which he retired in 1980. Bill and Bea were able to travel the world, going to Japan and Europe, along with seeing much of the United States. In 1973, Bill and Bea built a home on the 12th hole at Balcones County Club and resided there until 2007. Bill was an active member of Balcones County Club and enjoyed playing golf for many years. He was an avid bridge player and always wanted to win at any game in which he participated. Bill was a big follower of UT football, attending many games over the years, and the Dallas Cowboys.
His daughters, Deborah Ann Patton of Round Rock, Texas, and Connie Tyler Johnson and her husband, Mike of Austin, Texas, survive him. He is also survived by granddaughters Jennifer Hodges and Lisa Aragon and her husband, Gabe along with great grandchildren, Joshua Kennedy and Kaiden Cassano.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will take place on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills; burial will follow the funeral service at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N-IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Odyssey Hospice of Austin.
