

William volunteered for the Army, where he served over 9 years, including combat service in Korea. William was honorably discharged from the Army in July, 1956 with the rank of Sergeant. Following his service in the military, William became a long time civil servant. He worked for 6 years with the City of Austin Parks department, then 32 years for the US Postal Service. After retirement, William continued to work as a school crossing guard for the City of Austin.
As a member of Bethany Christian Church in Austin, William served faithfully for 49 years.
William is survived by Alice Lee Bowser, his wife of 52 years; two children, Phyllis (Ron Wren) and Roderick (Carol) of Austin, Texas; one God child, Daryl Jackson of Austin, Texas; one brother, L. J. of Tyler, Texas; and two grandchildren, Collin and Nicholas.
The funeral service will be conducted at twelve o’clock noon on Saturday, the 24th of November 2012, at Hyde Park Christian Church, 610 E. 45th Street, Austin, Texas with Rev. Obie L. Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery with US Army Honors.
