William "Bill" Lynwood Hall Jr.

William “Bill” Hall, Jr. of Austin, Texas passed away July 19th, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born and raised in Danville, Virginia and attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering and participated in the ROTC program.

It was in Richmond, Virginia where he met the love of his life, Jane. In 1957, upon his graduation from Virginia Tech, they were married and then moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for Bill’s three-year training program with the Bureau of Public Roads (now the Federal Highway Administration). From Gatlinburg they moved to Denver, CO, Washington D.C., and Richmond, VA, and then to his first permanent assignment in Charleston, West Virginia and then to Columbus, OH. In 1974 they transferred to Austin, Texas. When Bill retired from the FHWA in 1990 after 32 years of service, he and Jane were able to travel and visit eighteen countries. In the States, the National Parks were a favorite. For many years they enjoyed the Austin Playhouse theater productions.

Bill and Jane were charter members of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin. They also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for seventeen years. They were married for 59 years until Jane’s death in 2017.

Bill is survived by his son Mark Hall, daughters Leigh Sanders (Stan) and Beth Dunn (Greg), grandsons Travis Sanders (Lexy), Taylor Sanders (Meredith), and Austin Sanders (Ivana), and great-grandchildren Georgia, Eva, and Elios Sanders and Kaura Nelson.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church located at 5226 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin. Date TBD.
