William James Murray IV

William James “Jamie” Murray IV, 37, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on September 1, 2026, at his South Austin residence.

Jamie was born on November 30, 1988, in Austin, Texas. The only child of his parents, he was the apple of their eye, their greatest joy, and deeply loved from the very beginning.

A lifelong Texan, Jamie grew up in South Austin’s Circle C neighborhood and carried fond memories of a happy childhood throughout his life. A talented baseball player, he played left field, traveled often with his select baseball team, and continued playing through high school.

Jamie attended St. Edward’s University, graduating in 2011 with a B.A. in Finance and Marketing. His professional career began in commercial real estate, but he would ultimately find his passion in technology sales, a field that suited one of his greatest gifts: his ability to connect with people. Jamie had an ease with others that was rare. He could make people feel welcome, included, and genuinely valued.

Music was another lifelong passion. Jamie was a self-taught musician who first picked up the bass with neighborhood friends in middle school. He would go on to perform and tour with numerous bands, bringing not only his talent, but also his professionalism, humor, and spirit to every stage and every group fortunate enough to have him.

Jamie lived a life that brought joy and laughter to nearly everyone who crossed his path. His social circle was large and inclusive, while his inner circle of close friends became family. People wanted to be around Jamie. His sense of humor was constant and contagious, and his presence had a way of making ordinary moments more memorable.

An avid skier, Jamie spent many winters in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico with family and close friends. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and loved the outdoors, golf, movies, concerts, and dogs. He leaves behind his dogs, Petey and Howdy, who he loved and cared for steadfastly.

Jamie also had a generous heart and believed in showing up for others. He willingly gave his time and resources to people who needed them, often without seeking recognition for it. Thanksgiving held special meaning for him, and he loved spending it serving meals to children at The Settlement Home. He also volunteered his time wrapping Christmas presents for children in foster care. His generosity extended well beyond organized charity; Jamie regularly made donations to organizations and causes he cared about and was just as likely to quietly put money directly into the hands of someone who needed help. For Jamie, generosity was personal. If he saw an opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier, he wanted to help.

More than anything, Jamie loved the people around him. His friends and family were his most prized possessions, and he was ours. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, loyalty, musical talent, generosity of spirit, and his extraordinary ability to make people feel like they belonged.

Jamie is survived by his mother, Deborah “Deb” Murray; his beloved life partner, Rachel Sill; his aunt Janice Stoley and her husband, John; his aunt Joanna Schultz-Osterman and her husband, Dick; his uncle, Robert Wynn Neustaedter, and his wife, Barbara; his first cousins Christopher Neustaedter, Tyler Neustaedter, and Ken Neustaedter (their mother, Kim Corley), Ron Schultz and family, Randall Schultz and family, Bennett McCarrol and family, and Dade and Deidra Stoley; his godfather, Peter Baen; his beloved godson, Cyrus Moon Shelton; and a wide circle of close friends who loved him deeply and whom Jamie considered family. He is also survived by his dogs, Petey and Howdy.

Jamie was preceded in death by his father, William James “Bill” Murray III; his paternal grandparents, William Murray Jr. and Jo Murray; his maternal grandparents, Robert Harold Neustaedter and Anna Le Neustaedter; and his aunt, Marsha Wilson.

Services for Jamie will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Social.
