

William A. (Bill) Pittenger departed this world on February 19, 2006 to join his deceased wife, Doris, in heaven. He was born in Canton, Ohio on February 27, 1915 to Marie Miller Pittenger and Chester Burt Pittenger. He graduated from Dennison High School. The family moved to Texas in 1934 after the Great Depression. Bill attended Ohio State University for two years, then completed his degree at the University of Texas Law School. He met Doris Owens, a University beauty and member of the Girls Glee Club Trio, while at the University of Texas. They married in 1938 when Bill was a senior in Law School and were blessed with 63 years of marriage. They are survived by their four children -- Bill Pittenger and wife Carolyn, of Frisco, Texas; Robert Pittenger and wife Suzanne of Charlotte, North Carolina; Diane Thompson of Austin, Texas; Martha Boswell and husband Dan of Austin, Texas. Bill and Doris were also blessed with 10 grandchildren: Ethan and Ben Thompson, Nick Nuspl and wife Malissa, and Tom Nuspl and wife Kristen, Nancy Beebe and husband Chip, Douglas Pittenger, Bobby Pittenger and his wife Jody, Amy Liz, and Grace Pittenger, and Natalie Kilts and husband Jimmy. He was blessed also with 4 great grandchildren: Erin, Alissa, and Ellie Beebe, and Will Nuspl. He is survived by one sister, Joanne Garrett and her husband Robert. Bill was a member of University Christian Church for 50 years and was finance chairman when the new building was constructed. He was Chairman of the United Way Campaign in 1957. He was a founding member of the Headliner Club, a 30-year member of Austin Country Club and 20 years at Onion Creek Club. He and Doris were enthusiastic golfers. Bill was a lawyer in Austin until 1950 then he became President of Sharp and Company, which manufactured and distributed school book covers. He was the first publisher of Texas School Business Magazine and Austin in Action, a Chamber of Commerce publication. In 1963 Bill returned to law practice as General Counsel to the Texas Automobile Dealers Association and was recognized nationally as an authority in U.S. Labor Dept. compliance laws. He wrote and published a book, A Consultants Guide Federal Wage and Hour Regulations, to assist his clients. He retired at age 90. He was devoted to his family, and his family to him. His love of life, loyalty, and great sense of humor brought many friends into his life. His integrity was admired by all who knew him. We will miss him greatly but are happy he is with the good Lord and family members he loved and missed. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
