

On Thursday, September 23, 2021, Willie Mae Fowler-Martin was called home to be with the Lord. She was 89 years old.She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Martin; parents, Tommie and Viola Fowler; brother, Edward Fowler; and sisters, Marie Roberts and Virgie Washington.She was born in rural Travis County around Creedmoor, Texas, on March 6, 1932. The family moved to Littig, Texas, in the 1940s, where she finished her schooling and later relocated to Waco, Texas, graduating from Paul Quinn College, formally known as Bishops College.Willie Mae taught for the Taylor Independent School District and retired after 36 years. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was very active in the communities of Taylor and Littig, and was honored for her outstanding accomplishments in the Littig community for her great educational contributions to the students of Taylor.She was influential in having a Texas historical marker placed in the Littig Cemetery on October 1, 2001, where she will be laid to rest.She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Taylor for many years. She later attended Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was an usher and faithful servant.She leaves to cherish her memories, her brothers, Lorenzo Fowler, Sr. and Tommie Fowler, Jr. (Hazel); four beautiful children: Carolyn Yvonne Lewis, Anthony Ray Martin, Sr. (Wanda), Lucy Annette Crowell (Curtis), and Stephanie Nichole Martin-Burditt (Albert); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
