Yvonne Edith Hagood, 87, went to be with our heavenly father on March 27, 2021 in her sleep at her home at Riva Ridge, Leander. She was born on September 9, 1933 in Bordighera, Italy to Guiseppe and Maria (Nuti) Nesti.
Yvonne had a very difficult life as a young child during World War II. To protect Yvonne from the difficulties and harshness of war her mom asked the nuns at a Monastery high in the mountains of Montecatini Alto to please take her daughter until the war was over. Of course, they agreed. This monastery was in the mountains next to Montecatini Terme, Italy. Yvonne told us many stories about the brutality of war with extreme detail. After the war, she completed her education and worked extensively in the European hotel/restaurant industry. During this time she became fluent in French.
In 1953, Yvonne and her mother went to see her brother (Remo) in North Africa, who worked for the American Civil Service in Rabat, Morocco. After reaching Rabat, Yvonne was introduced to the love of her life Hugh P. Hagood (USAF), a dashing service man from Texas. Of course, Yvonne spoke no English at the time, but Hugh spoke a little French. However, I assume the international language of love took over. Shortly after their marriage in September 1954, they were transferred to London, England. Here she became very fluent in English. After raising her two boys (Gregory and Gary) and travelling the world, they settled in Austin, Texas. During their adventures Yvonne taught Italian to many Army and Air Force personnel across Europe. She also worked in various retail stores throughout the seventies and eighties, but the job she loved the most was working at the Tourist Bureau at the old Robert Mueller Airport. She would assist travelers to and from Austin by answering questions on the phone relative to hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. Her other great passion was spending time with her two boys and
their families. The most important times for Yvonne was when all the family would get together for
holidays, birthday parties, etc., this is what Yvonne lived for.
She is survived by her son, Gary Hagood and his wife Judy; and their son Anthony, and his children Anthony and Alexandria; and their daughter Theresa Hagood and her son Jaden Choate. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh Hagood, and son Greg Hagood. She is survived by Greg's children, Jonathan and his wife Jeanna, their children Avery and Olivia; and Stacy and her husband Kyle Caffey, their children Addalie and Weston; as well as many nephews and nieces across the world.
Also, I would like to mention some of the folks who helped and spent many hours taking care of both of my parents. From Riva Ridge Assisted Living I want to thank Ken Missler, his wife Evonne, and all his staff, especially Alexa Berber-Cerbantes who use to do the Macarena with her. From other homes, Niki Vermeulen who always spoke French with her and Mel Castello who was always there tending to their needs. In addition, I would like to thank Kindred Hospice, especially Mimi Previte for her compassion and tireless efforts in taking care of both of my parents. The Hagood family thanks you for your kindness and appreciates everything you have done.
Due to Covid-19, we will be having a celebration of life at a future date.
