Zeverino Gutierrez

It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of Zeverino “Gus” Gamez Gutierrez, 89, Austin, TX. He went to be with his Lord Jesus on Nov. 6, 2015 at home after a struggle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Zeverino was born in Lockhart, TX on Aug. 1, 1926 to Guillerma Gamez. He served in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. After military retirement, he worked at IBM where he retired after 21 years of service. Zeverino married the love of his life, Katherine Odel Watts on Aug. 22, 1951, and they shared 64 years of life.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Katherine of Austin, TX; his sons, Zeverino Gamez Gutierrez, Jr. and wife Sue of Cedar Park, TX; Daniel Odel Gutierrez and wife Julie of Paige, TX; Anthony Gutierrez and wife Karolyn of Buda, TX, and his daughters, Guillerma Elkins and husband Gary of McGregor, TX; Kathy Schuchert and husband Jim of Cedar Creek, TX; his grandchildren Chris Blackmon, David Neumann, Justin Reynolds, Michael, Stephen, and Daniel Schuchert, Jessica and Travis Gutierrez, Ryan, Lindsey, and Jared Gutierrez; and sisters, Hortencia Gonzales, and Eva Sanders, and one brother, Henry Gutierrez. He was a great grandfather to 9 children. Zeverino was preceded in death by his mother, his daughter, one sister, two grandsons, and 6 brothers.

During his military service, Zeverino served in the Korean War and received the Certificate of Appreciation – 50th Anniversary letter from the President of The Republic of Korea. He is a Member of the American Legions for Sergeants.

Throughout his life he was constantly improving his education in field of interest. He received his Diploma in A/C Refrigeration, and Diploma in Automotive Mechanics and his Certification in Welding Plates & Pipe.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jerry Hood and Dr. Rene Castillo for their excellent care that was provided to our loved one.

Family will receive visitors at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks – 6300 W. William Cannon Dr., Austin, TX, on Monday, November 9, 2015, from 5:00p to 7:00p. A Rosary will be held from 7:00p-8:00p.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church – 126 W. Oltorf St, Austin, TX, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery – 14501 North IH-35, Austin, TX. Pall bearers will be Justin Reynolds, Michael Schuchert, Stephen Schuchert, Ryan Gutierrez, Jared Gutierrez and Gary Elkins. Honorary Pall Bearer is Chris Blackmon.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice can be given in Zeverino’s name.
