With sorrow, the family wishes to inform friends and relatives that Eleanor Hughes of Aylmer, Quebec, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the rich age of 90, in the company of family members. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Anthony Bernard (Bernie) Hughes and her siblings Edith (Donald), Joan (Norman), and Bill (Janet). She is survived by her children Stephen, Shaun (Donna), Phred (Anne) and Kathy (Tom), her grandchildren Aia, Aaron, Kevin and Cheryl as well as her great-grandchildren Caleb, Regan and Mila (predeceased by great-grandson Ayrton).
Eleanor was all about family; her family was the most important thing in the world to her. She loved having multiple generations around her at holidays, spoiling everybody with goodies. Eleanor loved animals, whether it was cuddling her own dogs, watching the cardinals at her home in Aylmer, handing out biscuits to neighbourhood dogs or sunflower seeds to chipmunks at the cottage, or feeding giraffes in Kenya.
Eleanor was shy and humble, kind, generous and always considerate. She enjoyed getting together with friends and family, especially at the cottage where many good times were shared. She was fun-loving, and full of surprises, like insisting on going parasailing in Mexico when she was in her seventies or hiking in the Rockies. She was a wonderful woman who leaves a hole in our hearts, but a lifetime of good memories.
A Private Funeral will be held in Aylmer with close relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the kind and considerate staff at La Renaissance care facility in Aylmer for caring for Eleanor with compassion in her last years.
