Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the age of 75. Beloved wife to Douglas Arthurs of 54 years. Loving mother to Douglas Jr (Manon) Diana, Suzy (Matt) and Weston (Lisa) devoted grandmother to Kayla-Lynn, Jessey, Jeremy, Jonathan, Kiersten, Madison, Andrea, Jessica, Chad, Bradley and Jessica as well as her great-grandchildren Violet, Melody, Charles, Joseph and Adam.
Jackie, as everyone knew her, was a selfless, simple, hard working, and kind hearted woman always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. To many, she was also a familiar face around town as she ran the ice-cream stand in front of the Laflamme grocery for many years known as “The Beacon” (La Balise) serving her famous soft-serve ice-cream, burgers, fries, and anything else she would cook up. She loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking for an army and baking more cookies, desserts and pies than anyone could eat. There was a reason why she had several freezers filled to the brim and always stocked. She always made sure when her kids, grandkids or any friends that were leaving her home, were not leaving empty handed. She made sure they were taking either a Ziploc bag filled with her famous cookies, homemade buns, pies, jars of jams or jellies with fresh apples picked from the neighbours orchard down the street or anything else that she could give to make sure she could fill up the freezers and stock her cold storage up once again.
Every day she had an agenda and was always busy doing something, she could not take a break. She was a very crafty women whether it was crocheting blankets for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, gathering bunches of pine cones from wherever she could to make her Christmas trees and wreaths and all her Christmas canvas decorations that she enjoyed so much. Christmas was her favorite holiday and loved it when Christmas started in July, even if she had already seen the movie she would watch it over again. It didn’t stop there, she would even watch Christmas movies on Halloween.
Jackie was an avid hockey fan and true hockey mom, her favorite team was Toronto Maple Leafs. You can ask anyone, with three TV’s in the household during hockey season, all three TV’s had on three different games.
Jackie’s love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was like nothing else, her family was her everything. The special bond that she had with each and every one of them, will be forever cherished by the memories that will continue to live on within each of them.
A celebration of life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion at 59 Rue Bancroft, Gatineau, QC J9H 4N6 on June 17, 2023 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
