C'est dans le calme et la sérénité que s'est éteint Marc Potvin le 18 août à l'hôpital de Hull à l'âge de 82 ans.
Né à Ottawa en Ontario, Marc y a passé les premières années de sa vie avant d'aller vivre en pension à Saint-Basile au Nouveau-Brunswick et ensuite à Montréal où il a fréquenté l'école Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf puis le Collège de Montréal. À l'âge de 15 ans, il a décidé de vivre une grande aventure en allant vivre en Colombie en Amérique du Sud. Au courant des trois années en Colombie, il a appris l'espagnol et a développé des amitiés qui dureront toute sa vie.
Marc était un homme de science. À son retour au Canada, il a d'abord étudié au Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology et il a ensuite travaillé comme chimiste dans un laboratoire à Santé Canada pendant plus de trente deux ans.
En 1965, il a épousé la femme de sa vie Andrée Piché. Pendant les années suivantes, le jour il était fonctionnaire et le soir il travaillait à la construction de sa maison au bord de l'eau à Aylmer. Il a construit peu à peu sa maison de rêve pour son épouse et ses trois filles.
Marc était un homme curieux qui a eu plusieurs passions au fil des années. Il a fait partie du club des archers d'Aylmer pendant plusieurs années avec ses bons amis. Avec ces mêmes amis, il aimait faire des voyages de chasse et de pêche. Il a aussi fait plusieurs autres voyages de camping avec sa famille et ensuite avec son épouse en Europe, en Amérique latine et dans les Caraïbes. Son amour de la musique latine l'a inspiré à se joindre à un club de danse sociale avec son épouse Andrée où ils ont développé plusieurs autres amitiés.
Enfin, ces dernières années, Marc a continué à être généreux de son temps et de ses talents. Grâce à son amour du bois et du vitrail, il a fabriqué des meubles et objets pour sa famille. Il prêtait toujours main forte à ceux qui en avaient besoin.
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Andrée Potvin (née Piché) et ses trois filles : Denise Potvin (Pierre Morimanno) de Gatineau (enfants : Vincent, Isabelle, Sophie et Gabrielle); Diane Potvin (Julien Rossignol) de Gatineau (enfants : Olivier et Guillaume); et Hélène Potvin (Craig Clark) de Cumberland (enfants : Calvin, Nuala et Hugo). Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses frères et sœurs : Suzanne Herdé (feu Vic Herdé), Jean Potvin (Louise Larochelle), Luc Potvin (Sylvie Roy), Louise Potvin et Lucie Potvin ainsi que ses deux belles-soeurs Hermine et Constance et plusieurs neveux et nièces.
