Meet the artist...
Written By: Roberta Sciara Weisbecker
Agatha Sciara met the love of her life, Nicola, and after getting married, they began creating the 'artwork' she was most proud of… their family. Together they have four children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who loved her.
Agatha has been an artist her whole life. She expressed herself through art in so many different ways. Her flair for fashion is something anyone who met her couldn’t ignore. During her 86 years, my grandmother has always been the most fashionable woman I know. She would accessorize any outfit perfectly, and have the shoes and purse that coordinated perfectly. If you needed fashion advice, or needed to borrow something she was always generous any time you called, and if she wasn’t home, chances are that my grandpa took her to Lord and Taylor on a mission for that “something special.” Her ability to create something from nothing extended into other areas as well; she was an artist in the kitchen too. She would enter the kitchen saying there was 'nothing to cook', and minutes later the house would smell delicious and everyone was stuffed with a three course meal. No one ever leaves my grandma and grandpa’s house hungry.
Painting, of course, was her most traditional artistic outlet. The majority of her work reflects her love of her family; she has painted portraits of some of the people in her heart. When we were younger, she would help us make art projects when my sisters, cousins, and I visited. We created everything from ‘fancy’ sneakers and shoes to paintings on canvas. She was convinced that we could create artwork as beautiful as famous French impressionist painters if we wanted to. Throughout her life, she continued to encourage those around her to appreciate art, giving art kits and coloring books to her great grandchildren.
Throughout her life Agatha created many pieces of art, however, the most beautiful artwork she created is the impression she has made in the hearts, lives, and souls of the people fortunate enough to meet her, love her, and be loved by her. No other artist can create anything comparable to the work of Agatha Sciara. Her art, her love, and her spirit live on in us... Her family and her friends...it lives on in our hearts every day.
