

Albert Kost Jr, 96, of West Islip New York passed away peacefully at Brightview Senior Living in Sayville, New York on Friday, August 10th , 2024. Albert was born and raised in Sayville, New York by his parents Albert and Ida Kost. He lived in Sayville for the first 42 years of his life then in 1969 moved his family to upstate Clinton Corners. Albert graduated from Sayville High School in 1944 where he was a star athlete in football and baseball. He tried out for the New York Yankees shortly after attending high school, but then served the United States Army during WWII for a brief period.
Albert spent 40 years working at Grumman Aerospace Corp. in Bethpage, New York as a tool shop foreman and supervisor, assisting in the manufacturing of the Navy’s F-14 Tomcat Fighter, and the wing of the Space Shuttle. Albert enjoyed the outdoors, including clamming and fishing on the Great South Bay on LI. He was known for delivering bushels of clams to friends and close family on Long Island and in Dutchess County, NY. Albert had a love for hunting where he built a hunting cabin in the Catskill Mountains with his lifelong friend, George Spruce. Albert would spend time on the weekends with his children, cutting wood, harvesting his fruit and vegetable gardens, hunting and fishing, and watching his children play sports. He was a lifelong and dedicated fan of the New York Mets, New York Giants, New York Rangers, and New York Knicks.
Albert was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer in 1971, son James in 2007, and son Eric in 2016. He was also predeceased by his wife Sue in 2017, and by his first wife, Eithne Kost, in 2015, with whom he shared all six of his beloved children with. Albert is survived by his three children, Laura Weber and husband David of Sayville, NY, Kathleen DeCaro and husband Mark of Big Bear, CA, and his son Stephen Kost and wife Michelle of Shelton, CT. He has seven grandchildren Jennifer, Elizabeth, Lauren, Krystle, Krystina, Anthony, and Juliana, as well as six great grandchildren.
A private ceremony will be held. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are at the direction of Claude R. Boyd Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon, NY.
