A TRIBUTE TO OUR MOM

Most people knew this beloved woman as Millie Trinka, who lived at 33 Paprocki Avenue, West Islip for over 60 years.
But to us she was MOM.

There are many words that can describe our Mom. These are foremost.

Mom was a TEACHER. She taught us the important values and morals of life. When we were young, she taught us our prayers, how to brush our teeth to the song, Happy Birthday to You. When we were washing and drying the dishes we would recite the multiplication tables. When we were older, she taught us how to drive a car.

Mom was a MENTOR. She taught us right from wrong through example. She was an outstanding role model.

Mom was ALTRUISTIC. She was the exemplar of selflessness. So many times she put her own wants and needs aside, so that we could have our wants and needs met.

Mom was an ORGANIZER. Everything in our home was always in its proper place and squeaky clean. Yes, Mom loved to clean. The saying, "You can eat off her floors", certainly fit Mom to a tee. When it came to pots and pans, Mom would always say "You need B&B"....Brillo and Bon-Ami in order to keep the pots always looking sparkling new.

Mom was a phenomenal COOK and BAKER. She made the best Czechoslovakian dishes like pork, dumplings, and sauerkraut and chicken fricassee. Neither of which we could replicate. And everyone looked forward to Mom's extraordinary cookies at Christmastime.

Mom was a SWEET EATER. She loved her desserts. When there was a variety of cakes and pastries, Mom would always say, "I'll have one of each."

Mom was a DEVOTED WIFE. She would get up early every morning to make sure Dad had something to eat and took his vitamins before he went to work. In later years, when they only had one car, Dad would phone Mom from work and she would faithfully pick him up on time. Mom was Dad's nurse and caregiver during the time he had cancer. During Dad's final weeks she did not leave his side and even slept in the recliner in our family room next to the hospital bed until Dad's passing. They were soul mates for fifty-two and one-half years.

Most of all, Mom was our BEST FRIEND. We did so many things together- shopping, sightseeing, traveling. We could talk about everything and anything. She was an outstanding listener, and only offered her advice or opinion when we asked her. And most of the times when she did, she was right.

Mom was an all around GOOD PERSON. She was proud of being a mother, wife, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law.
MOM, YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED.

Millie, you were one of my best friends. We enjoyed going to church every Sunday together and then eating breakfast at the Diner. I always admired how beautiful and in place your hair was when we were together. You always listened and that meant a lot to me. I will miss you dearly.

I'll always remember when we both enjoyed desserts that weren't sweet at late hours.  We had conversations about your life and raising your girls.  You were a good provider to your children.  I know you are with your sister Rose, your Aunt Kay and your husband in Heaven.  I believe that there are plenty of paper towels up there and that they keep a very clean house.

To the best Mom in the world,
I will miss you with all my heart and will always cherish the times we spent together.  You were there when I needed you.  You were always my support, strength, and comfort when times were tough.  You always knew what to say to me.  I don't know how I will cope without you---your passing leaves a massive hole in my life--- in my heart.  You taught me many things as a young child right through adulthood.  Theses hold me in good stead today--- good manners, respect, and sound moral values.  These values have made me who I am and so very much like you.  I will always treasure the last seven months of your life where I took care of you like you always took care of me.

I really didn't know Ms. Trinka.  But I have become good friends with her daughter Arlene. I'm sure the apple doesn't fall far from the tree she must have been a beautiful person.  God rest her soul!

Millie graciously let Arlene and I put our 'gently used items' up for sale in her front yard and driveway for a garage sale back in the late '80's.  Attached is a photo of Arlene and her mom, Millie.

I met Millie through her daughter Arlene back in the late '80's when we were neighbors in Kings Park, Long Island.  I saw her and her husband at Arlene's house on several Christmas occasions.  She was a very nice, sweet woman and I know how much she meant to Arlene and her sister, Roseann.  My sincere sympathy for their loss.  Kathleen Walter (Riverdale, Bronx, NY)

I met Ms. Millie through her daughter, Roseann. My sweet memory of her was when Roseann brought her in to the salon for me to give her a manicure, and she would insist that I had not filed her nails. I would explain to her that I had, and showed them to her, she would just look at me with a sweet smile and say, "Oh yeah!":)...then she would say the same about the other hand, lol! I don't know much else about her personally, but one thing is for sure...the love between Ms. Millie and Roseann was very strong...something I was never able to experience with my own Mother, and throughout my working relationship and now dear friendship, with Roseann,I have learned that there is not much else in the world stronger than the love shared between a Mother and their child! Rest in peace Ms. Millie... I promise to be there for your Roseann, as long as she lets me :) xoxo

I had the pleasure of meeting Millie as I formed a close friendship working at school with her beautiful daughter Rosanne.  Millie was a wonderful mother who had a zest for life!  She loved children and would light up whenever she would see my daughter.  She was a kind and loving human being who will be greatly missed by all that she touched.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family especially her two girls Arlene and Rosanne who are missing their mother so much right now.

To My Wonderful Mom and Friend.....You were a very special Mother whose love was always there and through the years it has always meant so much to know how much you cared. I will always remember the things you taught me, especially how you always encouraged me to do the best I can, to have strength and to be happy! Thank you for always making me feel special. I was lucky to have you in my life for 60 years. I will always cherish all the fun, time, and laughs we shared. You will never be forgotten. I know You and Dad are watching over me! I unfortunately never personally met Millie, But I do know who she is.. The Pictures, Stories and Memories shared by her family and friends, paints a picture of a loving family and of a Lady ,Mom and Friend to all.

Aunt Millle was a warm & wonderful person.  As a child I remember her bright & warm smile.  She will be missed, dearly.

I met Millie once through Rosanne at school.   I got to know her and appreciate her through Rosanne's stories about her Mom.  She was wonderful.  Millie must be so proud of her daughters.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs. Trinka was a warm, thoughtful lady.  She raised a wonderful daughter, Rosanne, who loved her dearly.  On several occasions when she came to Baltimore we had the privilege of visiting with her and getting to know her. Our prayers for the peace that comes through Jesus for her family.

We never actually knew Millie as her stay in Florida was short but we feel like we did through our good friends Rosanne and Ronald.  Our deepest sympathy to all who loved her.

The Holmes family sends their regret to Millie's family for this sad event. We will always remember Millie as a great friend and neighbor.
