Andy met his beloved wife, Angela Saitta, at a nightclub in Howard Beach. Their meeting began with a love story that lasted more than 47 years. Together, Andy and Angie created a beautiful life and raised two wonderful children.
Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army for nine years. A devoted Vietnam veteran, he carried great pride in his service and was known for the bravery and resilience he demonstrated during his time in the military. His experiences, including surviving captivity as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, shaped the strength and perseverance that he carried throughout his life.
After his military service, Andy worked as a mechanic and truck driver, where he was known as a strong, dependable, and reliable colleague. He approached his work with the same determination and dedication that defined so much of his life.
Andrew found some of his greatest happiness in the simplest things. He loved to fish and crab, a tradition he continued nearly every weekend at the local marina well into his 80s. He caught blue claw crabs and snappers, but more than anything; he loved simply being by the water. He could spend hours sitting peacefully, patiently waiting before pulling the traps.
"The longer you wait, the better the catch," he would say.
There was wisdom in those words. Andrew was content in those quiet moments by the water, and he understood the value of patience. He found joy in simply being there.
Andrew taught his children perseverance from the very beginning. Having endured tremendous hardship, including his time as a prisoner of war, he faced life with a strength that became part of his children as well. His greatest lesson and perhaps his most enduring legacy was simple: "Never give up."
Andrew will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Angela; his children, Peter Saitta and Louis Saitta; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and grandnephews. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved companions, Pepper and Coach.
Andy leaves behind a legacy of courage, perseverance, devotion, and love. He will be remembered not only for all that he endured, but for the quiet strength with which he lived his life, the family he cherished, and the simple moments he treasured.
