Anthony J. Mariano was known as many things to many people. He was a loving son, beloved brother, amazing uncle, a loving nephew, your BEST friend, someone truly special. To family and friends who knew him best, Anthony will be remembered as a very exceptional person. He was truly one of a kind.
He was the son of Claudia & Vincent. Anthony grew up in Levittown, NY and was raised with 4 siblings. He had 2 older brothers, Vincent and Chris, a twin brother Matthew, and his younger sister Kristin. Anthony was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Anthony had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He enjoyed street hockey and stickball. Being out on the water with his family are some of his favorite pastimes. One of Anthony's most memorable achievements include playing for the 1994 MacArthur New York State Champion Varsity Baseball team. To Anthony, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends, so many of which he was close with and remained close with over the years.
A typical teenager, Anthony had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1994. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Anthony enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Anthony was able to manage the balancing act. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Social Studies from SUNY Old Westbury. He later graduated with a Masters Degree In Social Studies and Education from Queens College.
Fortunately, Anthony loved what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Anthony worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was High School History Teacher, also specializing in media and political theory subjects. He enjoyed working at Benjamin N. Cardoza High School in Bayside, Queens in NYC where he was employed for 15+ years. Anthony always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Anthony enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various activities. His favorite pursuits included obtaining the absolute best seats for a Pearl Jam concert, followed by any other musical bands of his liking. Of course catching a good game with family and friends also topped his list. Anthony found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included golf, golf, and more golf. Being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed following his favorite teams whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were Islanders hockey, Yankee baseball, and even the JETS.
A true love story for the ages, Anthony first met his fiancé back in 2006 at a Pearl Jam show in NYC. Then 4 years later, they met for a 2nd time randomly at another Pearl Jam show in 2010, this time in Newark, NJ...and have been together ever since. A decade in the making. One thing this Jersey girl Christie and Long Island boy Anthony had in common was their love of music, specifically Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam brought them together...and before they knew it...Christie was on her way, moving truck in tow, out to Long Island. They purchased their first home 3 years ago in Kings Park, NY and spent most of this recent summer enjoying their new pool together with close family, friends, and neighbors. Anthony & his fiancé Christie were supposed to be married 7-11-20, but due to the current health crisis COVID-19, they had to postpone to July 2021. Empathic and loyal, Anthony was committed and to starting their future together.
Anthony was a lover of animals and cherished ALL pets. One of his favorites is his Jemma girl, his angel, a lab mix he and Christie adopted 9 yrs ago together from FurBabies Rescue when she was just 3 months old. His family was rounded out by his 2 favorite feral cats he and Christie welcomed in as kittens, Blackie and CC (aka Mr. Man).
Simply stated, Anthony was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Anthony leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Anthony J. Mariano.
