Brad and I worked together at Boatland, way back when....
we recently reconnected at Surfside. I was sitting at my desk and I heard this voice coming from the other room...I knew voice and then when I saw him..I instantly remembered Brad!  We sat and chatted about old Boatland days. Brad worked for my brother, Dick Callaghan and had so many nice things to say about him. I shared the news of Brads passing to him and he was so very sorry to hear this. But funny, without me saying what Brad had said about him, he said so many wonderful things about Brad. They had a mutual respect for each other. Brad showed me so many pictures of his grandchildren and was so happy to be a grandfather.   I am so glad that we had that moment to reconnect.

Brad was a true hero to his family,  his friends , his community and his country. His final goodbye was such an honor and a tribute to this amazing man. He was a kind, caring, giving , loving, beautiful , gentle soul. He was always there for us over the years.  He touched the lives of all who knew him! 
We will always be here for Debbie, Kelly, Barbara and all the family. We love you and will keep you in our prayers,

Brad was our very special friend, he was family to George, Lisa, Mike, Liliana and me.  We will miss his wonderful smile and all the great times we shared together. No party, dinner, visit , trip or boat ride will ever be the same without him. We will cherish every precious memory. He will be in our hearts forever ! Love you and miss you so much.  Rest in Peace Brad.

I have been friends with Brad for over 50 years.  With his daughters, Kelly and Barbara being about the same age as my two daughters, Erica & Elizabeth, the Maier's and Sterling's enjoyed many good times together.  While Brad and I were in different companies in the BFD, we both became instant friends since we were both long term members of the Rescue Squad and Drum Corp.    We both also served on the board of Wardens at the same time.  Brad was the quintessential firemen and a kind hearted true gentleman.  It is quite easy to see why Brad was revered by his family, friends, and brother firemen.

For my Godfather, who lived his best life and kept smiling no matter what sort of hand he was dealt. The man who pulled some strings and got me my first waitressing gig at the illustrious Mario’s High Hook, and taught me as a child not to be afraid of clowns. 

He was so well loved and respected as a Suffolk County Fire Commissioner and Chief of the Babylon Fire Department, but to me he was the person who always gave the most thoughtful Christmas gifts to his goddaughter, long after she’d aged out of receiving holiday gifts from everyone else. Especially photography. That was our thing. 

But my favorite memory of Uncle Brad has to be our Willie Nelson adventure at Forest Hills Stadium, Sept. 11, 2019. He’s just had a few staples in his head to take care of some cancer, no big deal, hence the silly hat. We took the train in and convinced my father to meet us on the platform after work. Brad had at least one heart attack under his belt and was down to one lung by then, but you wouldn’t know it the way he trekked down that long path to the venue. 

And then he sat there like a kid in a candy store, grinning from ear to ear all night long. His little brother was getting tired and hoped to high tail it out of there after Willie Nelson, the act they came to see. But Uncle Brad wore that grin through Nathanielle Ratliff’s amazing set, then Alison Kraus, and all through Lucas Nelson after that, exclaiming the whole time, “this is Amazing! FOUR great acts! Phenomenal!”

Forcing my father and his brother to spend some quality time together and with me that night was one of the top five greatest moments of my life. I’m so glad we did it.  I promise you by this time next year I'll have figured out how to play a few Willie Nelson tunes on the guitar you gave me.  I only wish I'd taken the time to learn sooner so we could play them together. Love you, Uncle Brad. 

I'll always remember being in church and turning around to see Uncle Brad in his usual spot .... watching his sister sing in the choir and being a fixture there; it was a great comfort as we always loved getting to see him. We are so grateful that we had those many opportunities.  I also loved getting a call from him asking about Lake George or just saying hello. He was such a friendly and kind person and gave his service to so many different  organizations... I can only dream to leave the impact he has left. The world needs more Uncle Brads💜.

My deepest condolences to Brad's family. I will never forget how wonderful he and other BFD members made my 90th birthday at the Carriage House 7 years ago so memorable and special. There's nothing like the connection he made me feel to the organization even though I've been away for awhile. 
He will be missed, and was taken too early. God bless you all at this sad time, but know you will meet again someday.

I am so thankful that uncle Brad is a part of my family.  I will always remember his big voice greeting me hello, it was an honor to see what he meant to the community of Babylon village.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the entire Maier family.  Uncle Brad was a true legend that touched so many lives. Today’s final goodbye was a true testament to that. He was always so invested in others and genuinely cared about everyone he came in contact with. May you find comfort and peace in the memories you have and hold them in your hearts forever. Uncle Brad, you will be deeply missed. You were truly an amazing person that made the world a better place. You’d always go above & beyond to be there for me, to support me or help me in anyway possible. I knew all it would take is one phone call & you’d be right there. I’ll miss all the pictures you take to capture our most special moments & the follow up picture cd that always came right away. But more than anything I’ll miss the big smile & all the love that came with that delivery. My heart is so sad & I wish Liliana could have gotten to know you, but I’ll hold on to all our wonderful memories together. Mike, Liliana & I know you will be smiling down at us & watching over us always. We love you, Uncle Brad.

I know Brad through my husband Dan and the BFD.  I work at Stop and Shop and Brad would always come and ask about Dan and my children.   He was truly interested and concerned.   He will be missed.

Uncle Brad... A man of many talents and a man that lights up the room when he walks into it... literally and figuratively! I am so honored to have you as my uncle and your memory will forever be with me! It breaks my heart that our family has to go through this again but I know you will always be with us! We have all gained another guardian angel, and we will all miss you so much! I love you uncle Brad please give my dad a hug for me 

Brad buddy, you will truly be missed. Thank you for being a good friend and I will always remember our times together in the  Babylon Fire Department, Camping, talks about our Maritime Captains Licensing and especially Politics. I met Brad 48 years ago when I joined the Argyle Hose Co3 in Babylon Fire Dept. He always had a smile and a good word to say. 
He helped me with running the Argyle when I was Captain .
 We had some good times in FD together. I was so glad I had called Brad last Thursday to talk about everything and anything. Little did I know it would be the last time we would talk. RIP  Chief Maier !!!

My heart has been broken. Brad you were my brother my father figure but most importantly my friend. I will miss you dearly and remember you forever. Always in my heart.

Brad was my boss at FRES many years ago and a good boss beside. He cared greatly about our mission and more importantly, our staff. He made sure to check on me as I recovered from heart surgery and always provided encouragement which I will always remember.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Brad for many years through the Suffolk County Fire and EMS System. Always a pleasure to work with, Brad was a fierce defender of the work of the men and women in the fire service, something he was  very proud of, and dedicated much o his life in furtherance of that service. We attended many meetings and calls together, and of course, we were able to let loose a bit at the annual Fair Harbor Labor Day Parade. Rest In Peace my friend....you did good!

I was Chief of Amityville when Brad was Chief , and also worked with him when I was coordinator. Brad was always a great guy to work with. So sorry for your loss.
