Edgar William Osborne

Edgar William Osborne, affectionately known as “Ozzie” or “Ed,” passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on December 20, 1941, in Huntington, New York, Ozzie was a longtime resident of West Babylon, New York.

Ozzie was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1960 to 1964. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Florida, a place that would hold a special place in his heart throughout his life. He was deeply proud of his service and grateful for the opportunity to serve his country.

Following his military service, Ozzie built a long and dedicated career as a Loss Control Representative for Merchants Insurance, where he worked for more than 50 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and compassionate personality. His commitment to his work and the people he encountered throughout his career was a reflection of the kind of man he was—dependable, caring, and hardworking.

Outside of work, Ozzie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and could spend hours waiting patiently for that perfect catch from the sea. He had a deep appreciation for the beach and enjoyed walking along the shoreline, finding peace in the sound of the waves and the beauty around him. Whether sitting in the sand, watching the sunset, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the beach was a place where Ozzie felt at home.

Florida was especially close to his heart. He loved boating and found great joy in being out on the water, particularly in Florida. Boating was something he truly enjoyed and loved sharing with others. Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors, surrounded by the water, sunshine, and the people he loved.

Ozzie also had a special love for dogs. Their unconditional love and companionship brought him tremendous happiness throughout his life. To Ozzie, dogs were more than pets—they were beloved companions who brought comfort, joy, and love without ever needing to say a word.

Above all else, Ozzie cherished his family. Nothing made him prouder than watching his family grow and seeing the people they became. He took great pride in their accomplishments and the amazing, inspiring individuals they grew to be. His love for his family was at the center of his life, and the memories he created with them will be treasured forever.

Ozzie will be deeply missed by his beloved daughter, Kellyann Artusa (Osborne) and Thomas Bertorello; his cherished grandchildren, TJ, Dominick, Nicole, Jake, Anthony, and Christina; his great-grandchildren, Ella and Carson; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara.

Ozzie leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, and love. His kindness, strength, dedication, and love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on through the family he loved so dearly and the many lives he touched along the way.

A visitation will be held on September 15, 2026, in the Aryle Room at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Homes, 448 W. Main Street, Babylon, NY 11702, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

A committal service with Air Force Honors will be held on September 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
